ABSTRACT

Ultrasonography [US] is usually the initial imaging modality for evaluation of scrotal masses; however, magnetic resonance [MR] imaging can be useful as a problem-solving tool when sonographic findings are equivocal. The aim of this work is to provide examples of the utility of MR as a solving problem tool in assessing scrotal masses. Fifty two patients presented clinically with palpable scrotal masses were subjected to US and MRI imaging with Surgical and/or histopathological correlation. MRI was superior to US in cases of abscess formation, in delineating the abscess wall and cavity and exclusion of neoplasm. Apart from the 2 cases of teratoma in which MRI detected the presence of fat inside the tumour, MRI did not add more information than US in the diagnosis of testicular tumours, but provided additional information in cases of trauma and pseudotumours. It is confirmed that US is irreplaceable as a primary choice in scrotal masses imaging. However, at present, MRI provides information similar to that obtained with ultrasonography in some cases but in certain circumstances MRI proved to be superior to US as in cases of complex inflammatory or neoplastic masses and in some cases of testicular trauma

ABSTRACT

Carbamic acid 3,4 - dichlorophenyl sulfonyl methyl ester was prepared, interaction with different amines yielded a series of N-substituted-N'-3,4- dichlorophenyl sulfonylureas. Chemical structure was confirmed on the basis of elemental analysis, MS, IR and [1]HNMR spectroscopy. A pronounced herbicidal activity against Echinoocloa crus - galli L. Beauv [barnyard grass] was attained by sulfonylureas bearing pyridyl, benzoic acid - 4 - amino- and butyl moieties. Meanwhile, the corresponding phytotoxicity to Oryza straiva L. [rice] was relatively low

ABSTRACT

4-[P-chlorophenyl]-[4H]-6-[substituted styryl-cyclo-hexenonyl]- 1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidine-2-thione [IV] and 5-[p-chlorophenyl]-[5H] [7-substituted styryl-cyclohexenonely]-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrothiazolo- [3,2a]-pyrimidine-3 one derivatives [V] have been synthesized. The 2- aryl-methylene [VI] and the 2-aryl-hydrazono-[VII] were also synthesized. Some of these compounds have been tested for their antimicrobial activity

ABSTRACT

In search for new antimicrobial agents fourteen naphthalenesulfonyl hydrazone derivatives were prepared. These compounds were tested for their antimicrobial activity against two strains of Gram-positive bacteria, five strains of Gram-negative bacteria and one strain of yeast. The biological activity of the prepared compounds was discussed

ABSTRACT

In a search for new pest control agents, the following naphthalene sulphonohydrazides have been prepared: naphthalene-1-sulphonyl hydrazide, naphthalene-2-sulphonyl hydrazide, 4-chloronaphthalene-1-sulphonyl hydrazide and naphthalene-1, 5-bis-sulphonyl hydrazide. The hydrazides have been converted into a number of derivatives [e.g. hydrazones, and their N-methyl and s-benzyl-iso-thiuronium derivatives]. The compounds were characterised by their ultraviolet, infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance, and these are briefly discussed. The insecticidal activity of these compounds was screened against cotton leaf worm
